On July 3, 2024, the Deputy Director of the Coast Guard Administration, Xie Qingqin, stated that the Pingtung-registered fishing boat 'Da Jin Man 88' was inspected by Chinese authorities 11.2 nautical miles off Jinjiang Shenhu Town, within the territorial waters of mainland China, due to suspected illegal fishing. Two Chinese coast guard ships seized the vessel, which had 5 crew members, including 2 Taiwanese and 3 Indonesians. The Coast Guard urges China to clarify the inspection and release the boat and crew promptly, emphasizing that this is not the first time a Taiwanese fishing boat has been detained by China but the latest incident in a series dating back 17 years ago.
