In Taichung, Taiwan, a driver who parked in a parking lot and left without successfully paying through the card swipe machine was later demanded a penalty of 25,000 yuan by the operator. Following intervention by the Consumer Protection Office and negotiation based on user payment principles, the issue was resolved with the driver agreeing to pay a reasonable parking fee and the operator reducing the penalty to a total of 10,000 yuan. The incident sheds light on disputes arising from the increasing use of electronic payments in parking lots and the shift towards self-service payment systems.
