Poland, Baltic 3 Countries Urge EU to Build Defense Line Along Both Russian Borders

Reported 9 months ago

Due to increased military threats from Russia, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, and Lithuania have jointly called on the European Union (EU) to establish a defense line along the borders with Russia and Belarus to mitigate destructive actions from both countries. The proposed defense line would include ground infrastructure and aims to defend against military threats, misinformation, cyberattacks, economic coercion, and hybrid warfare. The estimated cost of constructing a 700-kilometer border defense line between the EU and Russia is at least 25 billion euros. Several countries, including Poland and Estonia, have warned about the escalating Russian hybrid warfare threats. Meanwhile, the EU held a summit in Belgium to sign a security agreement with Ukraine and enhance competitiveness to counter economic pressures, preparing for potential inclusion of Ukraine and Moldova in the future.
