In July 8, 2024, the police conducted a raid on a hotel near Zhongli Train Station and arrested 18 Thai women engaged in prostitution. A transnational group had been operating a coordinated scheme to bring Thai women to Taiwan for sexual services, with their base near Zhongli Train Station and extensive advertising on social media. The police, after conducting surveillance and gathering evidence, raided the location last month and arrested 18 prostitutes, 3 intermediaries, and 2 male customers. The arrested Thai women, aged 19 to 40, entered Taiwan on tourist visas, with 11 of them having evidence of engaging in sexual transactions and facing fines under the Maintenance of Social Order Act. They will be deported by the Taoyuan City Special Service Team. Three others involved will face charges of obscenity and be investigated by the Taoyuan District Prosecutors Office.
