Police Arrest 4 Suspects for Operating a Zombie Drug Factory Producing E-cigarettes Using Etorphine

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 4, 2024, at 3:21 AM, the police arrested four suspects, including a man surnamed Chen, for producing e-cigarettes containing the powerful opioid etorphine, commonly known as a 'zombie drug.' Etorphine causes behaviors like loss of control, tremors, and abnormal shaking, making it a controlled substance in many countries. The suspects were caught in New Taipei's Lujhou area operating an illegal distribution center for these e-cigarettes, using etorphine obtained through illegal channels to manufacture and sell them for hefty profits. The police seized evidence like e-cigarette cartridges, liquid, and manufacturing tools, intending to produce around 1,600 e-cigarette cartridges worth approximately 4.8 million NTD. The case has been transferred to the New Taipei District Prosecutor's Office for further investigation, with the authorities determined to crack down on criminal organizations involved in drug trafficking.
