In New Taipei City, a police officer named Weng from the Sanchong Precinct mistakenly identified local resident Huang Lianshun, who had a background in special forces, as a fugitive, leading to a physical altercation and wrongful arrest. The court recently ruled Huang innocent while sentencing Officer Weng to 5 months in prison and 10 days of detention or fine. The precinct expressed respect for the judicial decision. The incident occurred in September 2022, sparking protests and legal proceedings from both sides. Huang Lianshun was acquitted while Officer Weng was found guilty of abusing power and intentionally committing assault and coercion.
