South Carolina police officer Ryan Terrell was found to have misused his authority by using surveillance cameras to track his wife around the clock, suspecting her of having an affair with a colleague. When confronted by the colleague, Terrell was demoted and received a 6-month probation. He had used surveillance cameras numerous times to monitor his wife's movements, even capturing her meeting the colleague outside the parking lot. Terrell claimed he did it out of concern for her safety, but was ultimately punished for abusing his power.
