Police Towed Truck from Private Parking Lot, Citing Red Line

Reported over 1 year ago

In New Taipei City on June 19, 2024, a truck owner accused the police of towing their truck from a private parking lot's designated spot, as the officers cited a red line drawn on the ground by the landowner as the basis for their action. Despite being informed by the lot attendant that the area was private property and the red line was a private marking, the police proceeded to tow the truck, leading to a dispute over the enforcement of parking regulations. The incident provoked a debate over the application of parking rules and resulted in a towing fee and fine totaling 1880 NT dollars for the truck owner. The police defended their actions by claiming the area was considered a public road due to the consistency in pavement and the presence of a traditionally painted red line. Following the incident, the red line on the premises was painted black to prevent further misunderstandings and potential towing incidents. The police department announced plans to consult with the local district office to clarify the situation concerning the red lines on private property.
