In Taiwan, elderly pedestrians face significant risks while walking on the streets, with statistics showing 266 elderly individuals dying in traffic accidents last year, equivalent to 1 elderly person dying every 1.5 days. Children pedestrians are also a vulnerable group, with 1,239 children being injured or killed last year. As Taiwan's population ages and approaches a super-aged society in 2025, efforts to improve pedestrian safety, especially for the elderly and children, are being emphasized through various city policies and initiatives.
