Political Commentator's Mention of a Sentence by Lai Ching-te Made Cheng Wen-ts'an Feel Cold Resigning

Reported about 1 year ago

Cheng Wen-ts'an, Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, implicated in corruption, was summoned by investigators for 16 hours on July 6 and was later released on bail. Despite emphasizing 'selfless dedication, no greed, no taking' in a statement after release, Cheng Wen-ts'an resigned as chairman, upon President's approval, following a single comment by President Lai Ching-te which reportedly made him 'feel cold'. Analyst Huang Yang-ming pointed out the possible influence of Lai's stance on Cheng's decision to resign.
