Political Interests and Election Considerations: Xiao Xucen Criticizes Lai Ching-te, 'I Don't Think He Will Facilitate Smooth Cross-Strait Exchanges'

Reported about 1 year ago

President Lai Ching-te's statement during his inaugural speech on May 20 that 'the Republic of China and the People's Republic of China are not subordinate to each other' has raised doubts. In a recent interview with TIME magazine, Lai mentioned that former presidents Ma Ying-jeou and Tsai Ing-wen had also mentioned 'not being subordinate to each other.' Xiao Xucen, Executive Director of the Ma Ying-jeou Foundation, expressed that from political interests and election considerations, he does not believe Lai Ching-te would facilitate smoother exchanges across the strait. Xiao emphasized the importance of adhering to the Constitution of the Republic of China and clarifying Taiwan's relationship with mainland China to achieve true peace and dignity between both sides.
