Politician Sues for Defamation Against Opposition Members

Reported 11 months ago

Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) legislator Ho Chih-wei filed lawsuits seeking compensation of 3 million NTD each against DPP legislator Chuang Jui-hsiung and former DPP legislator Wang Shih-chien for defamation. However, the court ruled in favor of Chuang and Wang, stating that as politicians, Ho had a higher duty of tolerance and the comments made did not violate his reputation. The court found that the comments made by Chuang and Wang were political opinions and expressions of public interest, thus dismissing the defamation claims. Ho argued that he was targeted during the DPP's primary elections, with Chuang calling him 'disgraceful' and 'a demon,' while Wang referred to him as a 'demon' and 'evil.'
