A new study suggests that people taking Ozempic or Wegovy may have a higher risk of developing a rare form of blindness known as non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION). While the study cannot prove causation, it found that those taking semaglutide medications were more likely to be diagnosed with NAION, especially within the first year of receiving a prescription. Experts urge patients to discuss the risks and benefits of these medications with their doctors, emphasizing the importance of vigilance and monitoring for potential side effects.
