Popular weight-loss drugs may reduce desire for sweets

Reported 4 months ago

A new study presented at the Endocrine Society's annual meeting suggests that the weight-loss drugs Ozempic and Wegovy, containing the active ingredient semaglutide, may enhance taste sensitivity and decrease the desire for sweets in obese individuals. Researchers found changes in taste perception, taste bud genes expression, and brain responses to sweet tastes in women who received semaglutide injections compared to a placebo, indicating potential benefits beyond appetite and satiety changes for weight loss. More research is needed to confirm these findings in different settings and populations.
