On July 9, 2024, at 2:12 am, Taiwan Power Company announced that the power outage in Kinmen was due to a turbine unit malfunction at the Dashan Power Plant. The island experienced a complete blackout at 11:55 am, causing traffic signals to fail, air conditioners to stop working in the scorching heat, and reports of six elevator incidents with trapped individuals, all of whom were later rescued. Over 40,000 households were affected, with temperatures reaching 33°C, leaving residents without cooling options. Taiwan Power Company is working on restoring power, with nearly 80% of households already reconnected.
