On June 21, 2024, Xinyi district in Taipei experienced a series of power outages starting in the afternoon, with the cause still under investigation by Taiwan Power Company. Due to thunderstorms in the Greater Taipei area, operations at Songshan Airport were disrupted, the Wenhu Line of the MRT stopped, and even the MRT station at Wanfang faced severe water leakage. Residents in the area complained through a Facebook group about the sudden power outages and shared their experiences of darkness in their homes. Taiwan Power Company reported a total of 8 power outages from 3:19 pm onwards, with the latest one occurring at 8:50 pm, and stated that they were sending personnel to deal with the situation while further investigating the cause.
