Power Outages raise concerns, Minister emphasizes 'Enough Electricity'! Ma Ying-Jeou: Carbon Reduction more important than Anti-Nuclear

Reported 8 months ago

In response to recent power outages, Minister of Economy, Kezhi Guo, reiterated 'no shortage of electricity' and announced that starting in July, the government will provide transparent information on electricity supply and usage to the public monthly. Concerns over the potential extension of the third nuclear plant reignited after President Lai Ching-te established the National Climate Change Response Committee, with Andes Technology Chairman Tong Zi-Xian as the deputy convener. Former President Ma Ying-Jeou emphasized the importance of facing nuclear energy seriously, especially in light of the recent outages, and highlighted the need to focus on upgrading old distribution lines instead of worrying about electricity sufficiency. Ma also stressed the global trend towards nuclear energy, which has been recognized as a green energy source by the EU, and urged President Lai to address Taiwan's electricity shortage to ensure a worry-free summer for the people.
