Premier Su Tseng-chang visited Hualien to console the injured train driver and his family at the Tzu Chi Hospital and presented them with a relief fund. He apologized for the slow response and inadequate review regarding the recent New Taroko Express train derailment incident. Su requested the Minister of Transportation to ensure thorough testing of all slope alert systems along the railway and enhance personnel training. He plans to ride the train to Hualien next month to confirm improved safety measures. The accident, caused by a landslide with debris covering the tracks, resulted in injuries to the driver, Chen Jun-liang, and 8 passengers. Su was briefed on the incident by the Taiwan Railways Chairman, Du Wei, who mentioned that repairs are expected to be completed by 5 PM and additional safety measures will be implemented.
