On June 15, 2024, President Lai Ching-te presided over the inauguration ceremony of the 4000-ton Yunlin Ship (CG 5003) at the National Ocean Day event in Kaohsiung Port, marking his first time overseeing a coast guard ship inauguration since taking office. President Lai read the commissioning order, presented the flag, awarded commendations, and accepted a model of the ship from the Coast Guard Administration. Following the ceremony, President Lai inspected the coast guard personnel and toured the Yunlin Ship. The ship's commissioning is part of the government's plan to build 141 new patrol vessels from 2018 to 2027, aiming to enhance Taiwan's maritime search and rescue capabilities and humanitarian aid efforts at sea.
