President Lai Ching-te Attends National Ocean Day, Describing All People in the Country as the Backing of Coast Guards

On June 15, 2024, under the bright sun, President Lai Ching-te reviewed the Coast Guard units along with the Coast Guard Special Service in person. President Lai emphasized Taiwan's surrounded by seas, facing frequent provocations from the Chinese Communist Party, promoting domestic shipbuilding in enhancing national defense capabilities. The commissioning ceremony of the third 4000-ton-class Yunlin ship was also held in the morning, with Lai Ching-te and others inspecting the ship. President Lai expressed that facing regional pressures, the Coast Guard's tasks are becoming more challenging but stressed that all citizens will support them. The Coast Guard personnel work in complex situations, dealing with intruding Chinese fishing boats and other provocations from the CCP, with activities such as a recent incident of a Chinese man speed boating into the Tamsui River causing controversy. Ministry of Oceans and Fisheries Chairperson Kuan Pi-ling reassured that the Coast Guard will rise to the challenges and not disappoint the country and the president, emphasizing that they are a brave force that citizens can rely on. President Lai emphasized that the people will back the Coast Guard against challenges from regional powers, highlighting Taiwan as a maritime nation, with the government investing in marine technology research, conservation, and the passing of the draft Ocean Conservation Act in the legislative yuan for the protection of marine resources.
