President Lai Ching-te criticized for setting up three committees, Zhang Dunhan emphasizes cooperation to build a more stable foundation

Reported 8 months ago

President Lai Ching-te announced the establishment of three committees at the Presidential Palace, facing criticism for creating an overlap. Vice Secretary-General Zhang Dunhan emphasized on Facebook that while they are indeed 'building a house,' it is not by stacking beds but through cooperation. The goal is to create a better and sturdier structure that requires additional support to strengthen its foundation, which is the main focus of the three committees. Zhang also mentioned the historical precedent of past presidents setting up various consultative committees during their terms to address specific areas of national development. The decision to establish these committees follows in-depth discussions between President Lai and Premier Su Tseng-chang, both agreeing that these issues are crucial for Taiwan's future development and require presidential-level involvement. The committees, involving key topics like climate change, national defense resilience, and public health, will include relevant department heads, with conclusions or recommendations being discussed by the President and Premier to be implemented by the administrative team without additional ministerial salaries and unpaid future committee members.
