President Lai Ching-te was featured in Time magazine, where he mentioned that former Presidents Tsai Ing-wen and Ma Ying-jeou had both brought up the position of 'mutual non-subordination.' In response, Ma Ying-jeou's office countered, emphasizing that 'mutual non-subordination between two countries' and 'mutual non-subordination between both sides of the strait' are different concepts. They criticized the president for not using word games to deceive foreigners who do not understand Chinese.
