President Lai Files Constitutional Interpretation Request for 'Parliament Reform Act'

Reported 9 months ago

President Lai Ching-te has entrusted lawyer Hung Wei-sheng to submit a request for constitutional interpretation to the Judicial Yuan for the 'Parliament Reform Act' after its unsuccessful review by the Executive Yuan and it has taken effect. The act raises concerns over amendments to the Legislative Yuan's exercise of power and the Criminal Code. Various constitutional bodies including the Executive Yuan, Legislative Yuan, and Control Yuan have filed requests for constitutional interpretation, prompting the President's office to formally initiate constitutional litigation and request interim measures to freeze the implementation of relevant provisions. President Lai has clarified his stance opposing expanded parliamentary powers while supporting lawful and constitutional parliamentary reform.
