President Tsai Ing-wen Applies for Constitutional Interpretation Against Parliament Granting More Power

Reported over 1 year ago

President Tsai Ing-wen submitted a request for constitutional interpretation to the Judicial Yuan through lawyer Hong Wei-sheng regarding the parliamentary reform bill, seeking constitutional review and temporary injunction. This comes after the DPP caucus and Executive Yuan filed similar requests three days in a row. The Constitutional Court accepted the DPP caucus' request and will handle the cases involving the infringed Investigation Rights of the Control Yuan. President Tsai Ing-wen opposes Parliament's expanded power, stating that while reforms are needed, they must be legal and constitutional. People's Party Chairman Ko Wen-je noted that President Tsai stated she would not abide by laws passed until the constitutional interpretation is out, leading to debates regarding the implications of this approach.
