On the morning of June 28, 2024, President Lai Ching-te visited the one-year compulsory military training for new recruits at Success Camp, where he not only encouraged the soldiers but also shared memories of his own training at the camp years ago. The surprise came when the troops presented Lai with his own graduation report card from his time at Success Camp, revealing his excellent marksmanship and overall graduation score of 89.63. This visit also raised questions about the sustainability of one-year recruits and the possibility of recruiting foreign soldiers due to Taiwan's declining birth rates.
