President Tsai Ing-wen held a press conference today to announce the submission of a constitutional interpretation and temporary disposition of the parliament's empowerment bill, appointing lawyer Hong Wei-sheng to address several major controversies. Hong, with close ties to the Green camp, previously served as a defense attorney in the Chen Shui-bian case and referendum cases, and was the chairman of the support group for lawyer Lai Ching-te during last year's election. He clarified points on the National Security Report, personnel approval rights, legislative procedure flaws, and the need for a constitutional interpretation and temporary disposition to prevent irreparable damage from unconstitutional laws and uphold Taiwan's democratic order.
