Presidential Office: Ko Wen-je and Huang Kuo-chang Leading Rumor-Mongering Insulting Taiwan's Democracy

Reported 8 months ago

On June 25, 2024, President Lai Ching-te announced plans to seek constitutional interpretation and temporary disposal of legislative rights, cautioning against hasty actions and calling for bipartisan cooperation. People First Party Chairman Ko Wen-je criticized Lai for turning his back after the election, while Huang Kuo-chang questioned if Lai considered his campaign promises violating the constitution. The Presidential Office responded, accusing Ko and Huang of deliberately distorting national reports and inquiries, manipulating and misleading the public, ultimately disrespecting Taiwan's democratic process. The spokesperson stressed that applying for constitutional interpretation is part of the democratic process, and likening an elected president to Nazis or Hitler is a grave insult to Taiwan's democracy and freedom.
