Reported 9 months ago

On June 27, 2024, at around 11 pm, a 66-year-old man surnamed Yeh in BaDe District attempted to transfer NT$100,000 at a bank, alarming bank staff who then contacted the local police. Police officers rushed to the scene and discovered that Yeh was likely a victim of a romance scam. They managed to convince him not to proceed with the transfer, informing him that his girlfriend did not need to quarantine upon arriving in Taiwan. BaDe Police Chief Wang emphasized the prevalence of online romance scams and urged the public to verify suspicious situations by dialing 110 or the anti-fraud hotline to avoid falling victim to such schemes.
