Taipei's three neighborhood heads are taking precautions against scams targeting the elderly by monitoring intentional conversations during community activities, especially since most participants are retirees. They are particularly alert if young people join in and prohibit any commercial activities. This is in response to a rise in elderly scam victims, with 2,500 reported just in the first five months of the year. The neighborhood heads are cautious to prevent senior citizens from falling prey to scam groups through outings and trips organized by the community.
