According to Yahoo News Taiwan, on June 16, 2024, a high school principal in Hualien was driving with five students to Taitung for a visit. On the return trip, suspected fatigue driving led to a self-collision with a median strip at the intersection of Nanbin Road and Nanhai San Street, involving a small van in the same direction. The driver and the five students on board suffered minor abrasions. Both drivers tested zero for alcohol, and the exact cause of the accident is pending police investigation.
