A private temple in Tainan, Taiwan, sparked controversy by releasing promotional material suggesting a 'marriage' between Guan Gong and the Ma Zhu at Lukern Palace Tianhou Temple, even going so far as to 'change Ma Zhu's surname'. Lukern Palace Tianhou Temple condemned this act, urging the public not to be misled. The Lukern Palace Tianhou Temple clarified that this event did not happen and criticized the promotion as solely the activity of the private temple, causing severe distress to the temple. They stressed the importance of preserving the pure Ma Zhu faith and strongly condemned the act of misguiding believers through promotional materials.
