Promoting Halal Taiwanese Cuisine through Collaboration of Chefs from Home and Abroad

To promote halal Taiwanese cuisine, the Foreign Trade Association recently held a 'Taste of Halal ‧ Taiwanese International Food Show' event at the Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei, bringing together renowned chefs from Taiwan, Indonesia, and Malaysia to showcase creative dishes using locally Halal-certified ingredients and attracting Muslim country diplomats and international buyers. The event featured chefs like Chef Chen Kuanmin from the Muslim-friendly Howard Plaza Hotel Taipei, Chef Adie Miartadi from the Indonesian Islamic Chef Association, and the renowned Malaysian Chef Fikree, who combined Taiwan-certified halal products with Taiwanese or Southeast Asian flavors to create innovative dishes. The event also saw the collaboration between the Foreign Trade Association and the Howard Plaza Hotel's pastry shop to develop an exclusive Arabic-style honey cake as a souvenir. The Secretary-General of the Foreign Trade Association, Wang Ximeng, highlighted Taiwan's diverse and quality halal ingredients, aiming to introduce them to Muslim consumers and expand Taiwan's visibility in the global halal market through continuous efforts and innovation. This event was not just about showcasing food but also about cultural exchange, with Taiwanese celebrity chef James commenting on the creativity and endless possibilities of Taiwanese halal ingredients, Indonesian Chef Adie expressing surprise at the diversity of Taiwanese halal ingredients, Taiwanese Chef Chen Kuanmin stating that making halal dishes is not difficult with some creativity, and Malaysian Chef Fikree being impressed by the Taiwanese halal spicy sauce, noting the challenges of obtaining halal certification for spicy products in Malaysia's booming hotpot market.
