Promoting Renewable Energy and Preventing Violations: Green Legislators Propose Boycotting Offenders and Regulating Fund Cutoffs

At a press conference held at the Legislative Yuan, DPP legislators Guo Guowen, Lai Huiyuan, and Cai Yiyu emphasized the need to prevent corruption and pollution in the development of renewable energy. They urged Taiwan Power Company to stop purchasing green electricity from power plants found in violation, and suggested that banks have the authority to halt funding to prevent funds from flowing to unscrupulous operators. Officials from the Ministry of Economic Affairs and the Council of Agriculture expressed support for measures to prevent corruption and pollution in the renewable energy sector, with proposed legal amendments to cease purchases from offending parties. The legislators also highlighted concerns over the negative impacts of solar power plant construction on local communities and the environment. They advocated for transparent regulations on plant siting and emphasized the importance of environmental monitoring compliance before power purchases. Additionally, they proposed that banks should be able to retract funding if operators lose their establishment permits.
