Prophecy by Hsieh Lung-jie: William Lai may take office, and Zheng Wen-Can may be the first to get into trouble because of corruption

Reported about 1 year ago

On July 6, 2024, Taoyuan Mayor and current Chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation, Zheng Wen-Can, was detained by the Taoyuan prosecutors for allegedly violating the Anti-Corruption Act. Despite being later released on bail, this incident has shocked the political scene in Taiwan. Back in April this year, KMT legislator Hsieh Lung-jie made a prophecy that after President Lai Ching-te took office, Zheng Wen-Can might be the first to encounter troubles. The allegations against Zheng Wen-Can involve accepting bribery from landowners for expanding land in the Hwa Ya Science Park. Hsieh Lung-jie cited conflicts in the DPP factions and Zheng's controversies as reasons for this prophecy. However, the court later dismissed the prosecutors' plea for detention due to lack of evidence regarding money laundering allegations.
