On June 21, just last month in Taiwan, there was a knife attack incident in the MRT where 2 people were injured and the perpetrator, surnamed Hong, was subdued by passengers preventing further harm. After intensive investigations, the prosecutors concluded that Hong had premeditated the attack and was mentally sound during the act, charging him with attempted murder among other crimes. They found he had meticulously planned the crime regarding date, location, route, tools, and method. Victims expressed respect for the judicial process and emphasized accountability and forgiveness. The father of a high school student injured in the incident mentioned that they would use any compensation for public welfare, hoping for a better future. Hong had planned to carry out the attack on the 20th but delayed it to the 21st, the 10th anniversary of the Zheng Jie murder case on the MRT, to gain national attention, showing intentionality and high societal harm, prompting the prosecution to seek a severe sentence.
