Protecting Water Safety: No Drowning Incidents in Dai Bao Creek for 6 Consecutive Years

Reported about 1 year ago

During the summer holidays, people often visit beaches and rivers for water activities. New Taipei City Mayor Hou You-yi recently inspected water safety and rescue exercises at Yan Yang Valley in Sanxia District, followed by attending a private rescue team commendation ceremony at Da Ban Gen Forest Hot Spring Hotel where he presented certificates of appreciation. Hou emphasized the importance of safeguarding water safety, especially at Dai Bao Creek, where there have been no drowning incidents for 6 consecutive years. With 120 kilometers of coastline and 21 rivers in New Taipei City, the Fire Department monitors 39 water play areas, mobilizing over 15,000 people every year for surveillance and timely rescue operations for drowning individuals. Collaborating with the Central Weather Bureau, early flood alerts are provided for 9 creek areas to warn people of potential dangers. As climate change brings unpredictable weather patterns, caution is urged for those engaging in water activities, especially during summer when sudden heavy rains may occur. To enhance safety measures, surveillance cameras and broadcast systems have been installed at 32 locations along Dai Bao Creek, Golden Waterfront, and Lingjiao Waterfall. Special summer water safety patrols are deployed at Dai Bao Creek, Nanxi Creek, and Beixi Creek, ensuring swift responses in case of emergencies, such as heavy rainfall. Overall, the city is devoted to safeguarding water areas and ensuring the well-being of its residents.
