In June 18, 2024, with the severe aging population in central and southern Taiwan, Taichung City, the second largest city in Taiwan, has over 2.85 million residents, with 458,100 aged 65 and above. The demand for long-term care services is increasing, with 92,100 estimated individuals requiring such services. Taichung has seen growth in long-term care infrastructure, with 1,803 ABC units established by April this year, a 1.3 times increase from 2018. To encourage youth to enter the industry, Taichung City introduced the 'Golden Care Award' in 2018, recognizing caregivers and organizations. The number of caregivers has since increased significantly. Additionally, a 'Long-Term Care Male God Award' was introduced to promote male involvement, resulting in an increase in male caregivers from 13.7% in 2019 to 17.6% in 2024. Other cities like Kaohsiung have also seen an increase in caregiver numbers and improvement in services due to enhanced training and planning for future facilities.
