On July 17, 2024, Minister of Agriculture Chen Chun Chi stated that raising the public grain purchase price is 'not the best solution'. The Legislative Yuan passed a resolution to increase the public grain purchase price by 5 yuan, which some scholars believe will lead to a rise in rice prices. Minister Chen expressed that this increase is not the optimal choice and will elevate costs not only on the consumer end but also in the production chain. He emphasized the government's continued promotion of policies to enhance the rice industry and benefit all rice farmers, not just the 30% who contribute to public grain.
