Public Opinion on Fu Kun-Chi's Proposal for 'Hualien-Taitung Transportation Three Laws' Revealed in Street Interviews

Reported 7 months ago

Fu Kun-Chi, the convener of the Kuomintang Legislative Yuan caucus, has proposed the 'Hualien-Taitung Transportation Three Laws,' which is expected to become a battleground in the legislative session. A majority of people interviewed expressed support for prioritizing the Hualien-Taitung Expressway over the proposed extension of National Highway 6 through the Central Mountain Range and the Island-Wide High-Speed Rail. Concerns were raised about the high costs and practicality of the latter two projects, with most interviewees opposing the Island-Wide High-Speed Rail due to safety and financial considerations. Despite some reservations about the projects, many acknowledged the potential benefits of improved transportation in the region. Street interviews conducted by Yahoo TV's 'Wind Direction Taiwan' highlighted varying perspectives on the issues.
