Puerto Rico Restores Power After Massive Blackout as Lawmakers Call for State of Emergency

Reported 7 months ago

Luma Energy in Puerto Rico has restored electricity to most areas following a large outage that affected over 340,000 customers in the capital and neighboring municipalities. Lawmakers are urging the governor to declare a state of emergency due to the persistent outages that have endangered residents, particularly the elderly and ill who rely on electrical equipment. Nearly 5,000 customers remain without power, and several mayors are calling for the cancellation of Luma Energy's contract. Gov. Pierluisi plans to investigate and deploy the National Guard to aid in the power grid's restoration.
