Putin Arrives in Pyongyang, Embraced by Kim Jong Un

Reported 10 months ago

Russian President Putin arrived in Pyongyang on Wednesday night for a two-day state visit, where he was warmly welcomed by North Korean leader Kim Jong Un at the airport after more than 270 days since their last meeting. The two leaders then proceeded to the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun for talks. Putin is set to attend a military parade at Kim Il Sung Square and visit the only Eastern Orthodox church in Pyongyang during his visit, which marks his first trip to North Korea in 24 years. Putin's visit is seen as a move to seek increased support from North Korea amid Western countries' ongoing military aid to Ukraine, with Putin publicly praising Kim's leadership and solidarity with Moscow regarding the Ukraine conflict.
