Following the meeting between North Korean and Russian leaders where they signed a comprehensive strategic partnership treaty, South Korea mentioned reconsidering the provision of lethal weapons to Ukraine. Russian President Putin warned South Korea that providing weapons to Ukraine would be a serious mistake. South Korea stated that any assistance, direct or indirect, to North Korea in strengthening its military capabilities violates UN Security Council resolutions and should face international sanctions. Concerns were raised over Russia and North Korea's military and economic cooperation. The US State Department also expressed concerns over Russia's intentions to provide weapons to North Korea, warning that it could destabilize the Korean Peninsula. Putin, before concluding his Asian visit, held a press conference warning South Korea of providing deadly military equipment to Ukraine, hinting at the possibility of Russia providing precise weapons to North Korea.
