Qualcomm is currently contesting a £480 million ($646.8 million) lawsuit in London, initiated by the consumer group Which?, which claims the company abused its market dominance to impose excessive royalties on Apple and Samsung. The lawsuit alleges that approximately 29 million consumers who purchased iPhones or Samsung devices since 2015 are entitled to compensation, as Qualcomm is accused of enforcing inflated royalty payments even without the use of its chips. Qualcomm defends its practices as standard, stating that manufacturers must obtain a license for its essential patents.
