The Department of Health in Taiwan reported a significant surge in COVID-19 cases last week, with 623 cases of complications and 38 deaths, nearly doubling from the previous week. Two male infants, aged 3 and 8 months, were admitted to the hospital with severe symptoms but were successfully discharged after treatment. The majority of the severe cases and deaths are among elderly individuals above 65 years old. Variants JN.1 and KP.2 are predominant in Taiwan, with monitoring ongoing to track their prevalence.
