Rapid Surge in COVID-19 Cases Leads to 817 New Infections in a Single Week, Boosts Vaccine Coverage by 60%

The number of new COVID-19 cases surged significantly, leading to more people willing to get vaccinated, with 21,000 individuals receiving vaccines last week. The Taiwan Centers for Disease Control (CDC) reported an increase of 817 new local COVID-19 cases last week, compared to 624 cases the previous week. The cumulative number of severe cases among individuals aged 65 and above stood at 79%. The CDC emphasized that receiving the COVID-19 vaccine is the most effective way to reduce the risk of severe illness or death after infection, with 2.8 million doses administered in Taiwan so far and the vaccination rate at 11.47% nationally.
