On July 6, 2024, the Atacama Desert in Chile, known as the world's driest desert, experienced a rare winter bloom due to early rainfall, with purple and white flowers covering the sand dunes. This phenomenon occurs approximately every few years when the desert's unique flower seeds and bulbs can withstand harsh weather conditions. While the current bloom is not yet extensive enough to be called a 'flowering desert,' more rainfall is expected in the coming weeks, potentially creating a floral spectacle. The last early bloom in the Atacama Desert was observed in 2015.
