On July 17, 2024, a reader reported to Zhongtian News website that after renting a Tesla from a car rental company, they were rear-ended while waiting at a red light. Despite the company initially stating the reader would have to self-bear subsequent losses, the company later clarified they would compensate for the damages. The car, deemed unsafe for use after inspection, was severely damaged. The reader, found not responsible for the accident, accused the rental company of unfair treatment, which the company refuted, affirming their commitment to helping with insurance claims and denying any intention of jeopardizing customer rights. Images of the accident scene and damaged Tesla were provided by the reader.
