Reading Only for Admission to Top Universities: 'A Normal Family' Satirizes the South Korean Education System

Reported 11 months ago

Award-winning actor Seo Jinggu works with director Heo Seung-ho for the first time in the film 'A Normal Family,' portraying a profit-driven lawyer. The movie, closing film of the Taipei Film Festival, delves into the complexities of a family dinner turned moral battle due to an accident involving the children of two brothers. Reflecting on the flaws of the South Korean education system, the director criticizes the competitive nature that prioritizes university admission over coexistence, incorporating issues like child education and homelessness in the film. Adapted from the bestselling novel 'The Dinner' by Herman Koch, the film, titled 'A Normal Family' in Taiwan, has been selected for various international film festivals and will be released in South Korea later this year.
