Last year, a 39-year-old wanted offender named Yang in Chahua County, who was under the influence of drugs, tried to escape a police checkpoint by ramming into the officers while riding a motorcycle with a friend. The police officer, surnamed Cai, fired his weapon, hitting Yang in the waist. Yang managed to flee to a temple 5 kilometers away but succumbed to his injuries. After a year-long investigation, the prosecutors concluded that Officer Cai's use of his firearm was reasonable and did not violate the proportionality principle, resulting in no prosecution. The incident occurred on May 13th, 2023, and set off debates surrounding police weapon use and its consequences.
