Recent Poll: 45.8% Disapprove of Continuing 'Non-Nuclear Home' Policy

Reported 8 months ago

As the Third Nuclear power plant will gradually shut down starting in July, Taiwan will face a loss of 15 billion kWh of electricity. Amid concerns of a possible 3-4% increase in electricity prices, there is a debate over whether to continue the 'Non-Nuclear Home' policy. The latest poll shows 45.8% of the population disapproves, while 42.4% supports it, indicating a lack of consensus in society. Higher education levels tend to oppose it more, with more support in New Taipei City and counties governed by the Green Party. President Lai Ching-te established the National Climate Change Strategy Committee to address energy issues, including the potential extension of the Third Nuclear Plant's operation. The stance may shift despite reaffirmations that the 'Non-Nuclear Home' goal remains unchanged.
